(8 Weeks: 2-1/2 hours each week)  Course Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers
 

Learn to use a computer's technology to create your own information
system. One designed to fit your personal needs. Stored information
can be retrieved in any format you wish; the possibilities are endless.
Store names, addresses, telephone numbers and birthdays of friends
and relatives. Do mailing lists and personalized Christmas letters.

FUNDAMENTALS (Mouse 101)
(4 weeks - 2-1/2 hours each week)

This is a special class for someone who has never used a computer or a mouse. Come and learn the very basics, from turning on the computer to  learning how to mouse and understand the keyboard.

Genealogy I  (Data Collection and Entry)
(4 weeks - 2-1/2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Introduction to the PC or comparable skills.

Come learn the program Family Tree Maker, and how it can help you study your own roots
This class will give you the resources to search for your ancestors, and create a family file, ancestor
chart, descendant chart and more. If you have always wanted to get started with the search on your
family, or are currently involved in a search and would like a great format to put it in, here is the class!

 

Genealogy II  (Publishing and Formatting the Data)
(4 weeks - 2-1/2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Genealogy I

Come learn the program Family Tree Maker, and how it can help you create useful books, albums and 
files with all the data collected on your family history. This class will give you the resources to create a family
book with pictures as well as information. If you have always wanted to produce an album on your family
to pass on to the generations, or are currently involved in a search and would like a great format to put it in,
here is the class!

 

Graphics: Print Artist 23
(8 weeks - 2-1/2 hours each week) Prerequisite: Introduction to PC and ease in using a mouse.

Create personalized greeting cards, unique signs, and attractive photo album pages. Learn to use the many capabilities of the surprisingly powerful Print Artist software. You will observe on-screen demonstrations of graphics techniques, have a classroom computer to practice new skills, and a volunteer coach at your elbow. You will also have step-by-step instructions for learning on your home computer. Have fun creating calendars, business cards, bookmarks, and single labels or whole sheets of labels. Prerequisite: The Introduction to Using Your Computer course, knowledge of file management, and accuracy in using a mouse.

HOW TO BUY A COMPUTER

This is a 1�-hour class with plenty of time following the presentation to help you decipher those confusing store ads when purchasing a computer.  You will be given information that allows you to compare "apples to apples" when looking at the costs of systems.  The class will also help you to understand what you might need for equipment based on your plans for the use of the computer.  Join us for this FREE workshop.

This course is intended for the novice who wants to learn the concepts of a computer and get hands-on experience. Learn about basic computer operations and basic word processing using Microsoft Works, 2003. 

Introduction To The Personal Computer (PC) II
(4 weeks: 2-1/2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Introduction To the PC I

Learn about e-mail, Internet, Spreadsheets and Database. See how these great computer applications can make your life easier. Keep your household inventory, create an address book and mailing labels, and learn how to keep in touch with far scattered friends and family through e-mail.

Maple Grove Learning Center Users Group (MGLCUG)

We have a users group that meets on a monthly basis to discuss new computer technology, software issues, learning opportunities, trouble shooting, etc. Please plan on attending this monthly gathering, to share your expertise, ideas for discussion/education, or to learn from the others in attendance.

INTRO TO THE INTERNET  I
(4 weeks: 2-1/2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers
 

Get caught up with the Online Generation. This course will teach the students how to use
e-mail, the function and uses of a Browser, find Internet resources for our interests and
hobbies, and how to surf the World Wide Web.

INTRO TO THE INTERNET  II
(4 weeks: 2-1/2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Internet I

This 4-week class will take you beyond what you have learned in the Introduction to
Internet class. This course will have you working with downloading, attachments,
chat/news groups and advanced surfing. Prerequisite: Intro to the Internet

BASIC PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS
(8 weeks - 3 hours each week)  Prerequisite: Fun with Graphics

Our step-by-step demonstrations will help you develop your basic knowledge of Adobe's Elements software (Version 11). In this course you will transfer photos to your classroom computer from your own digital camera or a flash drive. You will then tag, move, organize, find and improve selected images. You will learn how to straighten and crop images, repair damaged and faded photos, move an object from one photo to another, and modify pixel resolution to obtain a quality print. On-screen demos, clear instructions, and knowledgeable coaches provide support for building your hands-on skills. This course is challenging. Allow time to practice at home. Prerequisite: The Fun with Graphics course or photo-editing experience.

8 weeks: - 2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers
 

Whether you are trying to manage your personal finances or those of your business,
Quicken for windows can end your financial planning and reporting needs.
Special reports will show you how you spend your money and how much you have.
You can create personal reports that summarize cash inflow and outflow, monitor your budget,
tax activities, and look at an overall measure of how well you are doing.

SPREADSHEET:(MS Office 2013)
(8 weeks: 2 1/2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers
 

A powerful tool for managing either business or personal finances. Put information into a
spreadsheet, the computer will do the calculating for you. Follow investments, do cost
estimates for jobs or repairs, balance the checkbook, prepare tax reports
... anything based on numbers.

WINDOWS 8 I
(4 weeks - 2 1\2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers
 
Make your computer look and work the way you want it to. Customize your computer using
Windows options for shortcuts, icons, taskbar, program menu, start menu and the desktop
arrangement.

 

 

WINDOWS 8 II
(4 weeks - 2 1\2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers
 
Learn to use Windows Explorer to find, save, move, copy and delete files and folders. Also,
learn to rename files, back-up files, use system restore and do basic preventive maintenance
on the computer
.



WORD PROCESSING I (The 'New' Typewriter)
(4 weeks - 2 1/2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers

Learn the basics in word processing, how to write letters, type your autobiography, type
minutes for your meetings, or send a letter to your whole holiday list, whatever needs writing!
Cut, Paste, Insert and more are planed for this 4-week class. Each session provides a
follow-up activity to reinforce the skills learned.

 


WORD PROCESSING II (Formatting and More!)
(4 weeks - 2 1/2 hours each week) Course Prerequisite: Word Processing I
 
This class expands on all that you learned win Word Processing I. It will teach you to use text boxes, graphics, and special formatting options. Learn the tricks to make your word processing simpler and more professional. You will be amazed all that you can do in word processing!
